This is about the construction of Israel's illegal wall that makes the life of a quarter of a million Palestinians almost impossible. Thousands of Palestinians are cut off from their farmland, their families and medical care.

Yes, but… Israel may defend itself against missile attacks, may it not?

Yes, but? "Yes, but… Hamas did start shooting, didn’t they?"
How did it all begin? Was it the shooting of small home-made rockets (by Hamas) or was it the systematic robbery of territory from the Palestinians and depriving them of their liberties? Many people are unaware of the fact that Israel has been founding illegitimate settlements on Palestinian territory until this very day.
"Israel may defend itself, may it not?"
It does sound reasonable but is it fair to exact vengeance for the 13 dead by 900 dead and 3,000 wounded? The offensive had already been planned six months ago and is launched now because of the upcoming elections in Israel and a change of president in the US. The question remains of course whether crushing the resistance against long-term occupation can be called a legitimate defence. "Hamas is a terrorist organisation, isn’t it?" From which perspective you look at it? The Palestines are taken their land for more than 60 years now and are occupied and suppressed by Israël until this very day. Israël has been condemned by many UN-Resolutions up to now. Hamas is a resistance organisation that uses violance. History however has learnt that Israël always repressed the violance with a multitude of it. In recent fights 13 Israeli has been killed and 1300 Palestines. What would you do if your country is occupied by another country and we all have to live in a small province because the rest is taken by the oppressor. If we are not free anymore to go where we want. If we are facing acute shortages. What would you do? Have a look at the documentary Bil'in my love and other documenaries listed on this site.
"This is just anti-Semitic propaganda, isn’t it?"
This opinion is often put forward to create a smoke screen to disguise the real problem. There are also many Jews and Jewish organisations protesting against the Israeli occupation and suppression.
"You can never solve this problem, whatever you do."
As long as politicians and citizens continue to ignore the problem, nothing will ever be solved. We must take action now and make a concerted effort to force Israel to return the land that belongs to the Palestinians and force them to comply with the UN resolutions. Severe economic and other sanctions should be imposed if Israel does not comply. |
